From a Whisper to a Vow

​

Some people call it "love at first sight," but for John and Ms. May, it was more like a divine appointment. In October 2022, John was serving as an armorbearer for the guest speaker during Christ Temple’s, May's home church, 85th Church Anniversary. Amidst the music and celebration, he saw May.

 

Ms. May didn't notice him that day, but John’s heart was already set. He leaned over to a friend and whispered with quiet unshakable confidence “She’s beautiful, and that’s going to be my wife one day!”

The Divine Setup

​

Later that afternoon, John found himself at dinner with Ms. May’s parents. While May wasn’t there, her mother was immediately struck by John’s character and attention to detail. She mentioned that she’d love for him to meet her daughter.

 

John was a bit hesitant, not yet realizing that the "daughter" she spoke of was the same woman who had caught his eye in the sanctuary just hours before. He didn't know yet that a mother’s intuition and his own prayer were already aligned.

The "White Jacket" Moment

​

A few months later, at Christ Temple's Christmas Cantata, John decided to make sure he was seen. He wore a crisp white formal jacket, hoping to finally catch Ms. May’s attention. But May was completely captured by the music and the spirit of the program.

 

It wasn’t until the program ended that John finally had an opportunity to introduce himself and they shared their first words. With some excited encouragement from May’s mother, John gave Ms. May his number, but he walked away without hers, leaving the next move to timing and faith.

A New Year, A New Chapter

​

In early January 2023, Ms. May sent a simple "Happy New Year" text that changed everything. That one message led to a private tour of Ms. May’s art exhibit, where John didn't just see her work, he began to see the heart behind it. What followed was a season of real discovery. They spent months getting to know each other through long talks and dates that were always filled with laughter. Their friendship grew so naturally that it felt like we had known each other forever.

 

By Valentine’s Day of 2023, they decided to protect what was growing between them and began their official courtship. A year and a half later on August 17, 2024 at the restaurant of their first date, John, on bended knee, turned that "one day" whisper into a "forever" promise, and asked for Ms. May's hand in marriage. It all came full circle on February 14, 2025—exactly two years to the day from when they first committed to each other. They stood in an intimate, holy space and officially became husband and wife.

Our Decision and Our Future

​

As we prayed about our future, we realized our primary focus was to begin our life together as husband and wife in a way that honored our faith and our values. We originally planned for a wedding with our immediate family quickly followed by a ceremony that invited everyone we love. However, life has a way of shifting priorities. 

​

Between the realities of timing and wanting to honor the gift God gave us, with prayer and much consideration, we are pouring our energy into building a strong foundation for our marriage. While the "big celebration" may look different than we first imagined, the joy of being husband and wife is exactly what we hoped for.
